Sometime this week I'll have my latest album uploaded (once dusty and kyle can agree on a name) and I just wanted to sort of explain the songs a bit, maybe even to myself. Nothing I write happens on purpose. Its sort of just opening your mouth or pen cap and letting whatever needs to be said out, however trivial or nonsensical.
1. other peoples minds - takes place in france when I didn't really know anyone from city to city and I sort of began losing myself, or changing from other peoples perspective. its also about coming home and finally realizing we ultimately experience life completely alone, and our individuality is based on thousands of perspectives shining together, interlocking constructing some sort of holographic image of a person. but we need it, as we desperately need our friends and loved ones.
2. Wisconsin - is maybe just something really simple i would like to tell a younger version of myself. its kind of gimmicky... loosely constructed as future existing all around us and i'm the ghost, i think. or, its about multiple personalities.
3. Just friends - i hope is obviously about the fear of separation and losing someone you love in a very hot and cold relationship. also, when i was recording this i was pulled over four times in one week, and i was expressing my frustration with that probably as well... kyle and roger are by the porch, and men like wolves are just that... everywhere.
4. Algiers - might be a bit offensive. Its about katrina and when I lived in new orleans. I'm not even sure if i should sing about stuff like this, but its sort of about how the spirit of the city lives on in people..
5. Salute - sort of takes place on ponce, deep ellum, but mostly at this one particular bar with a friend of mine. Its about trying to cheer someone up, and the kinds of people I get along with.
6. Heaven - starts out as a confession and then turns into talking about atheism again somehow... uh, finishes with a drive i took one night with my mom.
7. Leviathan - is about a mythical sea monster
8. City, Speak to Me - I think is about keeping secrets.
9. Hot Ashes - I desperately wanted this to sound like the music you'd hear when you're going insane trying to find someone in their personal hell. Or like transposing every sad memory into your own catharsis. I think it just ended up being kind of mellow and parts of it sounding a lot like a song from the frames.
-thanks to beth for the support and enduring all of the rough tracks. i love you.

i accidentally commented on myspace before i saw this. something to the effect of i cannot live another moment without this.
ok this is as good a place as any for this album name discussion. i'm probably just going to steal from lyrics
- Your Darkest Parts... too emo?
- People Like Weeds... maybe too close to Life Like Weeds... actually yeah what am i thinking, way too close
- No Seriously Who Drank Our Last Moonshot... kind of a The Decline of British Sea Power sort of thing. i have to suggest this once for each album
- It's Late... as in "come to bed Our Last Moonshot, ..."
- Come Upstairs... kind of along the same lines, except it's more about how funny i am
i know these are all terrible, but let's get this m-fing ball rolling
A Bear Ate My Chicken...this one is my favorite.
Dry County
how about something about "walls get us where need to go". i love that line, did bryan say something like that?
how about "Collier Ridge" or "Defoors Ferry Road"
i need the album before i can really help
p.s. my word verification for this post is soooo racist
Breakdown A Go-Go
ok this just came up in conversation and it's perfect for you: Chicken Dance Lover's Wet Dream
also, dusty do you still not have it? email me or something, i got the hook up
Main contenders coming from lyrics:
"These Thoughts Are Not My Own"
"It's Not Supposed To Feel Like Anything"
"Sunday Afternoons"
"What a Soft Heart Really Wants"
"There Isn't Anywhere To Go"
"Say Hi For Me"
"A Quiet Place"
"If She Exists"
A lot more where those came from. Damn, this album is good!
